Yeah, I was pretty sure I wanted a "four" model, just wasn't sure if I wanted an RS four, a 25x four, or an rs260. RS260 is nice, but what fun is it to just buy one? :-) There is an RS260 for sale right now for 15500nzd, and the rs four models tend to fetch 4-8 depending on condition and transmission. I saw an auto one go for 2500 a few months back, but it slipped through my fingers for a few reasons (biggest being buying the KP and not being the one to low ball the guy at the right time). Anyway, this is a suitable base for my plans, I think. It'll be a while before it all unfolds, though. It'll be on ski weekend mission duty until next summer at least. Just a car to use and enjoy, no mods until I have detailed plans. The KP is all about mods, though :-D

Spent last night reading up on how the 4wd system actually works, and it's pretty cool. I had no idea how it worked, at all. Never thought about it. I did know you could mod the early cars with a simple pot to balance the front and rear out, but these are a little more tricky/complex/clever. It's called ATESSA-ETS and drives the hydraulic clutch that links the front with the box at varying pressure depending on wheel spin and g force and other things. I'll need to come to understand that in a lot of detail before I dare to mess with it or really hammer it. I wouldn't mind getting a second hand transfer case piece and studying the guts of it. Given the number of RWD conversions of the GTR boxes, there should be one of those laying around somewhere.

Tonight, reading about head options, I came across a mention of a product, and then searched and found a few variants of the same thing:

http://www.lewisengines.com.au/rb30-awd ... ptor-kits/
http://www.spoolimports.com/rb30-awd-ad ... ptor-kit-1 / http://www.rawbrokerage.com/spool-awd-s ... rb25-rb30/
http://www.hioctanedirect.com/index.php ... ts_id=1369

And finally, a low price kiwi option: http://www.endevourengineering.co.nz/rb ... 65646.html

No fasteners, but that's not a big deal IMO.

And this morning I realised that I had not changed the ownership over, so I took care of that. She's now mine, according to the government! :-)

And a week later, the car that I want (mechanically) comes up for sale (in a modified condition that I don't want) for 7k. Which is fine. I can spend the 5k on driveline parts :-D Some pics for reference, though:

Especially re the driveline, engine bay, and centre console.

Bag packing is going OK! Not quite ready to rumble, yet, but nearly am :-) Expect posts on twitter from various locations starting tomorrow evening. Been looking forward to this for a while! Exciting times :-D

Updates are flowing. I'm hoping ToxicGumbo will step in with non-mobile links and short summaries :-)

pretty cold tonight, and hasn't run for a month, and unknown oil grade, and old crusty battery
probably fine
I'm guessing dry VVT mechanism
