That Starlet is absolutely fantastic. Reminds me of the Chevette my dad drove me around in and a part of me wants to grab a hatchback and relive that experience.

From IRC:
2 in container in pieces (VWs), 2 in garage (truck, hotel), 240 in driveway, 740,940,Suzuki,Lantis on road (usually, but Suzuki and Lantis on grass tonight), Millenia at a mate's place ready to strip
Grab some photos of this arrangement even if they don't go public. Well worth archiving what might be the largest collection of cars you'll have at one time.

What, like this? https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 8753092608

All facing the same way right now, though.

Gave the Millenia an oil change tonight! And tried unsuccessfully to do a skid :-D Didn't break, though. Has now got a mere 2 or 3 litres of oil in it, with lifter cleaner mixed in (higher concentration with less oil). I wanted it to be in there soaking to make it easier to clean later once it's out. Looking forward to ripping it out and cleaning it up, new cambelt, maybe water pump, etc. Sump and cam covers will come off, possibly not much else. New spark plugs. Some good oil, a bigger filter, and she'll be away laughing. Also need to research minor top end mods and how worthwhile they are. Likely not, I guess. Possibly valve springs and collet swap. Excuse the incoherent rant/note taking.

So, instead of sending the 940 wagon to the crusher, I had an idea:

Maybe not a great idea, but an idea nonetheless.

Cut the front off, floor out, side to side beams in, ply-foam-ply floor, attach a-frame from ute, add jockey wheel to the firewall, insert mattress, and perhaps even a kitchenette. Later upgrade to stubs from diff. In the mean time, keep the handbrake.

Win win win? :-D

I only owned it for just over 3 weeks and it was only out in the wild for just over 2 weeks. The hazards of buying a car that low-life scum also like and one for which parts are rare. Hopefully it shows up, in one piece, more or less, however I have strong doubts about that. Thus I'm on the lookout for another straight KP starlet, unless a miracle happens and I get it back in non-fucked condition.

Today I spent around at a mate's place, doing various things like investigating headgaskets, learning about monster scale CNC, and stripping small easy stuff off of the Millenia in preparation for a big day of strippage tomorrow. Hopefully the engine will come out near the end of tomorrow. Fingers crossed. Rough list:
  • Turn car around and reposition to give mate more room to work on his house
  • Run engine with return line into a container to drain fuel from tank
  • Unbolt lots and lots and lots of stuff, including removing the ECU, loom, transmission, engine, ancilliaries, etc
  • Remove the engine with a crane and place on a stand or on a trailer or some such thing
This morning I tried to buy a bigger oil drain tray, priced up drag radials I can't use, and did a number of burnouts in an attempt to make myself feel better. Failed attempt. Que sera sera.

Big day today, most stuff done, could have pulled it tonight but it'd have been a long night and my host was going out anyway. Still to do:
  • ATF connections to radiator need to be disconnected and mess minimised.
  • Fuel lines need to be disconnected and fuel captured/stored.
  • Drive shafts need to be displaced out to the sides so the stubs or tripods can be pulled out of the trans/CVs.
So tomorrow I need to take with me:
  • Blocks of wood
  • Jack stands
  • Engine crane
  • Balance bar
  • 940 wagon and some luck and maybe a meter and some other basic tools
So I can finish the above and lift the transaxle straight out in one big hit.

Then I need to pull the exhaust out of the car all together, too. Fog lights from front bumper. And the seatbelts and lights etc from the interior. Put the headlight back into place so it looks car-esque.

That's about it, I think.

Arrange a time/day for the scrap man to come by and take it away, then drag it out onto the street, take the wheels off, take the brakes, and rotors off, take the hubs off, remove lots of good large bolts from everywhere, then take a couple of hundred from the man and bid the body farewell.

That latter section will not be this weekend, however perhaps the next one, or sometime other soon. Need this Millenia out of my hair and out of my mate's driveway ASAP.

Millenia minus fuel tank and with loose subframe and suspension arm bolts out on the street and ready for final stripping! 240 was my weapon of choice for the day, easily housing all required tools in her rear end for easy access on the street. https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 6505075713

Front subframe including all arms and 28mm two pot brakes coming out in an interesting and entertaining way:

https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 2874646528

Stripped and awaiting removal: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 6363527169

Removal begins! I got video of this, however I'm not sure when I'll get a chance to upload it: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 7163251713

And all of this, including packing the tool kit starting around 10am and finishing around 630pm after final clean up and repack of tools and parts into the car, after a night sharing these with one friend:

https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 3666801664

This one being a delicious highlight: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 3037131776 YUM! :-o

Woke up at 6am dry and fully clothed. Drank half a litre of water, stripped off, and went back to bed. Woke again just after 9 feelin' fine.

So glad that thing is gone! The axles/subrames/etc are still around at slackercam's, but aside from that, the deed is done.

940 is next up for the cull. Quite looking forward to turning it into the quirkiest and most practical caravan of all time :-D
