Re: Fred's 1991 Volvo 240 Wagon
Today, a couple of hundred more km on the clock, touring around. Hopefully no damage from Peugeot wheels bouncing around in the back while I was doing silly things. Woops. No drama, but it could do with more top end, and more everywhere. Boost and DOHC can solve these things. I have a parts car lined up for this, too, so I'll likely take the time to test fit the 16v head onto the block in that car before I tear too much out of it, just to measure for clearance, etc.
EDIT:
Wheels in car: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 8465864704
Car by old pub: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 1401990145
Apparently it's been closed for years, though my last memory of it was being inside it as a child, and it was FULL of men drinking merrily at the time. I guess that was 20 years ago, though. Most of them are probably dead or in poor shape, by now.

Re: Fred's 1991 Volvo 240 Wagon
This is in no way related to my 240, but I'm putting it here anyway because I like it. Found on a twitter account, and may well be original to that account, as I can't find it in higher res anywhere else. Very few even equal. If you can do better, let me know! :-)

Action shot of the old girl working hard with her minion: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 6289105920
And enjoying some time down by the seas, also with her minion: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 7579071488
Poor thing got abused by a corrupt company, too. Corruption is rife in the world. Governments, corporates, dollar shops, the works. I vow to fight this, again.

Re: Fred's 1991 Volvo 240 Wagon
Anyone know how similar these are to the 240 seats? https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 0837165056
I saw an IPD video showing these things available for various parts of the seats in a 240. I bet they differ in shape, but looking at it, I could fix anything that had gone wrong with a small frame like that.

Re: Fred's 1991 Volvo 240 Wagon
This is a great video, by Jordan Bunker who is most likely a TBer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACimGC1VX8w
I should have some donor seats in hand soon that I can use to restore my 240 driver's seat which is currently pretty horrible.
Posting the YT vid for others to find, and for my own reference, having just watched it in an airport lounge.
Given what I've seen, I reckon:
1) My lower foam is totally F***ed.
2) My lower metal grill is totally Broken.
3) I can fix all of it in an afternoon using donor parts and the above video, with a few simple tools.
Win.

Re: Fred's 1991 Volvo 240 Wagon
Just got this a fresh WOF that'll last another 6 months! Took it for a bit of a drive around, 3 sessions today, wife to work, to WOF/back again without, to WOF/back again with, via the transfer station to drop some batteries safely. Keen to get into the parts car ASAP and sharpen up the old girl with new headlights, new drivers seat supports, and a few other bits and pieces. I'm just acutely aware of how much time pulling a car down takes having done it twice in the last six or so months - a LOT. And also a bit shy about killing a 240 on purpose. Though I wouldn't be the first, and I won't be the last. It has live plates, though, so perhaps I can sell it to someone to build a race car from? We'll see.
In other news, while I was at the dump, I asked the lady how much I weigh: 1480 - 90 for me, and say 25 for a half a tank of gas in it, comes out at 1365kg dry/driverless. About 200kg less than the Stagea, and somehow, through first gear, it feels quicker? :-D Might be the ratios.
Fred.

Re: Fred's 1991 Volvo 240 Wagon
Soooooo, I bought this:
And it has many things I want on it...
Such as the seats: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 8377807872
In coarse chunks:
Get the 16V head off the spare B234F and the SOHC head off of this, and mock up the 16V head in this engine bay to check for booster clearance etc. Design turbo manifold setup?
Problems:
I'll feel bad killing it, but it's for a good golden cause.

In coarse chunks:
- Dash guts, fan, gauges, switch gear, structural stuff, generic non-blue trim, etc.
- Front seats for foam/springs/etc.
- Doors - replace right rear, others spares
- Glass - spare front windscreen, sell rear/side rears
- Guards - spares
- Bonnet - bent, use as plug for making a composite one?
- Bumpers front and rear
- Engine bay contents - all, throw some away later
- Front suspension/subframe/etc
- Rear suspension/diff/etc
- Tags/numbers/plates - in case I find a good dereg car?
- Door open sensors
- Door hinges - my front ones are sloppy
- Shell
- Rear seats
- Boot
- Door cards - blue stuff all useless
- Fuel tank / pump / etc - carby

Problems:
- How long stripping everything off that car will take: Ages.
- How much space all that stuff will take up somewhere: Heaps.
I'll feel bad killing it, but it's for a good golden cause.
