GRRRRRRRRRRR!
On the brighter side, I got a set of these, however one leaked, so I tested it... https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 1367571457

Re: Fred's 1994 Type R Mazda Lantis
Had the leak fixed a while back, and it's still got air today, so that's good. WOF time soon, so if it fails on the snow tyres, they'll go on the car for that and probably stay on.

Grrrrr, some piece of shit smashed the window late last night!
Before: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 9406479360
After: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 7628201985
That's my afternoon ruined! Guess I'll be out hunting for a replacement tomorrow. Car can stay in on the grass until it's fixed. Might park it somewhere less sketchy, too. That's the fourth bit of damage, third to this vehicle, and first clearly intentional.
Sigh, just what I needed! :-/

Re: Fred's 1994 Type R Mazda Lantis
Cost so far:
Still to come:
And finally: The white panel I used to block the gaping hole: Not water proof! Not plastic! Now kinda soft. Will likely try to do the job tomorrow, or sometime this coming week if the weather is yuck tomorrow.
- 1 hour cleaning up mess on street, sealing up window for rain
- 1.5 hours round trip to zebra for replacement window
- $2 entry fee
- $30 for the window
- $1 for a Toyota wheel nut to try on the hotel (collateral damage)
Still to come:
- Clean it
- Pull door apart and install it
- Clear out all broken glass from interior

Re: Fred's 1994 Type R Mazda Lantis
Installed it on the Sunday after that post, yesterday, in fact. Another hour, there, I guess.
Today took the car to a supermarket indoor carpark and cleared as much broken glass out as I could. Got this: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 9086249985 plus 1.5 hours.
Epoxied the bracket that fell off back to the door card, too.
Still more in the door (not much, but...), and more amongst the Volvo parts, and more under the seats, and more inside various nooks and crannies, and more in the back seat under the folded down seat backs, etc. Will have to sort most of that out after removing the Volvo parts. I should be able to vacuum the guts of the door clean tomorrow, though, with luck.
WOF expires Saturday 28th May, last WOFed day is Friday 27th May, today was Monday 23rd May.
New WOF to be obtained on the morning of 30th after changing on the new wheels as brought up from Christchurch in the mighty KP60. Then I'll probably put the crappy china wheels back on with backs on front and fronts on back, until they are gone completely. Then sell the wheels, if I can.
Therefore I need to do the Volvo parts dump into storage or landfill any day this week, so I have a choice of four. It would pay for me to go through the bits and see what's rubbish and what's good and what I may need soon, and what much later, etc. And load any other stuff for the storage box into the car, too. I guess later in the week, maybe Friday morning, then.

Re: Fred's 1994 Type R Mazda Lantis
All back together, now! Vacuumed out the door and seat and carpet and so forth. Then this morning in the shelter of the supermarket carpark, I reinstalled the door card and speaker and controls! Plus 1.5 hours.
Tomorrow or Friday I will empty out the contents of the car into storage or rubbish, and find somewhere safer to park it.
Might have to invest in a steering lock, too. Not happy about that.

Re: Fred's 1994 Type R Mazda Lantis
Last night, emptied most of the parts into storage. Today, emptied remaining parts into garage, and caravan.
Today, vacuumed out entire car, as best I could, looks better than it has in some time.
Today, fixed LHS rear seat back latch, which never latched since I got the vehicle (I think it's a little bent).
So now she's sitting on the grass, her last day of legality until Monday, waiting for love. I'm afraid she won't get much love for a while, as I can't afford to give it to her. Que sera sera.
EDIT: Took her for a spin with the fuel light on, warmed her up, took in a view, gave her a bit of a thrash, and put her back in position for Monday's WOF, out of the way, edge of the lawn: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 4573044736

Re: Fred's 1994 Type R Mazda Lantis
This post for my reference, in case I do any mirror work on it later. I took apart the smashed mirror and noted the correct way to do each step:
1) Remove glass piece: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 4714980352
2) Remove rear trim/front housing: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 6317236225 and https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 3103031296
3) How to get wires free: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 0407752705
The end.

Re: Fred's 1994 Type R Mazda Lantis
Took it out on Monday to pick up wheels/tyres, get WOF, and the rest of the chores, but only ended up picking up wheels/tyres and being told WOF shop was too busy. So went home WOFless and spent an hour on the phone, and half an hour emailing ToxicTacomaPilot, and did other chores.
Took it back out today, got tyres off wheels, got WOF dropped wheels back, talked shit with em_knaps, swapped china wheels back on, washed Lantis wheels/tyres, mocked up centre console to look respectable, washed outsides free of moss/lichen/dirt, placed in a quiet cul de sac nearby where it's probably safe from vandalism, theft and incompetent drivers, unlike here.
So tonight, outside, just the caravan. Honouring the land lord's wishes of "one car".
This thing is totally empty of fuel, barely starts. It's sidelined until further notice. Poor thing.
Fred.
