Come on, people, someone write me a decoder for this thing! Just look at it sitting there oozing rice into the grass on the front lawn! :-D

One of the best car pics I've ever seen. It's in desperate need for a FreeEMS sticker on the side and, yes, a decoder!

Careful, you'll make it blush, then it'll turn pink and be even more feminine!

Started getting warm and blowing bubbles again today. Drove it across town and here and there and back again. Quite a bit of 4k low boost 100/110kph motorway usage. Going to dump what's in it and throw another bottle of stop leak in there and see what happens. Hopefully I can cure it again as it was fine for ages and it'd be good if I could eventually trust it, preferably without pulling the head off.

Was fine after I refilled it (from the bottle which was chockablock). Pushing it out with cylinder pressure, then sucking air in though the same passage on cool down, instead of coolant back from the bottle. IE, if I refill it every few days it'll be fine. No long trips, though, or pit stops to refill.

Tyres need balancing, too, and I'm unhappy with the steering behaviour, but not sure how to resolve. Looks like maybe it's been lowered a bit, and has 1 degree or so of negative camber on the front and unknown toe. RHS tie rod end is not 100% tight and rack feels weird when stopped, but fine while driving.

With balanced tyres and steering that felt good I'd be comfortable taking it on a longer trip, but right now it's not fun to drive at 100kph, too much hard work. Lower speeds are fine, windy roads are fine, but straight stuff is annoying as it wants to track left a bit or right a bit and not straight without holding it there. These feelings are evident at 20kph as much as 100kph, it's just got larger consequences at higher speeds.

Wasn't me, I didn't do it... https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 5099174913

Tie rod end and synthetic gearbox oil obtained.

Still needs a rear wheel bearing and a CV joint and an alignment and front types balanced and head issue fixed.

Still need to film a few gear shifts, too. :-)

Had the front tyres balanced, and the shake at high speed is different and less. But it's still there. I wonder if the front end noise is related to the front end wobble? Who knows.

This car got a lot of use over the last week since I broke th 740. Including, last night, in front of a crowd, it's first burnout. One tyre fire. Rolled back in the wet, slammed first hard, yanked handbrake as it came past zero velocity to keep it there, held 6k @ WOT for a while with a little smoke coming from the right front wheel, let off the handbrake and tore off down the road. 6k is about where the torque gets a bit thin with the tiny turbo. A bigger turbo would really wake this car up. :-)

On Friday night I dumped the water, put stop leak in, topped it up, drove it 10 mins up the road to warm up, stopped, pulled plug 4 and injector clip to match, and drove around for 30 mins on 3 cylinders with no torque/power making a racket. Why? Combustion pressure is pushing gas through the gap we want the stop leak to seal. So to have the reverse effect we need pressure in the cooling system to push stop leak blend out through the crack. The only way to achieve this is with no cylinder pressure in number 4. Will give it another run tonight to the supermarket and back, and as many more as I can stand until I feel comfortable with it having sealed up well enough to hold boost.

Sometime after this, and before last week, it developed quite the leak. Last weekend on Saturday I managed to find and fix it with a new hose, pics:

WOF time soon, not sure what it'll fail on, but I feel like it should fail on something :-D Mean while, still using it day to day. Some mongrel under educated islander smashed it with his fist / open hand as he drove past today. I phoned the cops and followed him until they had enough to go by. Bleh. The BOV and turbo sometimes attract the wrong type of attention... and by sometimes I mean most of the time. I still need to film it for your amusement...
