Re above post from late last year, I since found out that FC RX7s have alloy 5 stud hubs with old style bearings, so am trying to source a pair of those to get this thing swapped over how I want it.

But the reason I entered the thread was to post this picture of a factory flared Proceed 4x4 guard that I bought on the weekend with my old man: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 5544188928

Unlikely to use it as is, but it may make a good plug for a mould for a RHS composite panel. Would also need to get a LHS one as well, IF I need the space, which I'm not sure about just yet. If I can keep the stock guards/lines/look, then that suits me best. These have a different shape aside from being flared, and I prefer the ones I have right now.

Saw this today, and it reminded me of some rear deck mods I need to do to gain travel and clearance: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 1931938816

So tonight I uncovered the front of the ute that had stuff stacked up on top. Then I wiped down the bonnet of dust and grime accumulated over months stored in the garage. Then I did the windscreen, first with surface cleaner, then glass cleaner, and the roof, and then the steering wheel, with meths, to kill the light mould coating, then I cracked the bonnet and was most pleased to find no visible signs of corrosion, so I dowsed it all in CRC 5.56 again, to survive a bit longer before being cleared out properly. And a couple of tweets/pics:

Felt good sitting inside it in the BG 323 seats. Can't wait till I can afford a head gasket, head skim, and some TIG welding on the hot side of the head. Then it can be brought back to life! And roar, like a lion :-)

Fred wrote:I've been plotting the 5 stud setup for this thing and done a bit of gathering and thinking and measuring.

1) I have a spare hub here now to measure up without disabling the truck completely. These are not suitable for redrilling.
2) Hyundai H100 vans have 5x114 but use an M14 stud!
3) Mitsubishi and Toyota vans use 5x114 with an M12 stud! One of these may be suitable with just a different set of bearings.
4) Both of the above utilise a rear-mounted brake rotor. I can also rear mount a bigger rotor using an adaptor disk of some type.
5) This will place calipers and rotors further into the wheel arch and into a larger part of the wheel = larger possible rotor size, perhaps.

So with the above in mind, I present this: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 6377780224 Which looks like this:

FC3S RX7 outer bearing specifications:

http://www.ntn-cn.com/4T/4T-32204.html
http://www.aotengbearing.com/p/ntn-sing ... 56416.html
http://www.ntnglobal.com/en/products/ca ... 2E_b22.pdf (all? At least many bearing specs here, a great reference.)

All saved on "falcon" if those pages change/vanish.

Interesting that the maximum rated speed of this one small bearing is ((8800 * 2 ) / 1000 ) * 60 = 1056kph :-D I don't think even the ute could reach that. Load for the one bearing alone, nearly 4 metric tonne dynamic. Feasible to exceed this during an impact scenario with 300 to 400kg on the corner, hence wheel bearing damage when those things happen, I guess.

I'll have to compare those with the ones that the truck is supposed to take, so I know if I'm downgrading at all, or not.

NTN 4T LM48 = inner bearing on the truck/van.
NSK JL69349 = inner bearing on the FC3S RX7

Don't yet have a part number for the outer on the truck/van. To edit into this post later.

Edit this into the above post at some point, it's the outer bearing of the big 6-stud van/ute steel hub: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 8680841217

And the four rough cast notches that allow you to tap it out easily: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 1387679746

Not sure if I'll put 2 or 4 in the alloy one to replace those bearings when the time comes, but this is just for reference.

And here's the other reference/guide: http://www.mazdatrix.com/faq/frontbrg.htm

Saved to cheetah box, just in case.

5-stud updates! :-D

Races/rollers the same, and yet different: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 5587987456 and https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 2019383296 large diameter rollers in the ute one with the smaller ID inner race!

Larger of the two FC3S nuts exactly matches the ute nut! https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 8741577728

Greasy stub axle and caliper mounting holes: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 5554846720 and https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 7712074752

Seal offset details, will work fine with stock FC seal: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 0095218689

If I can figure out the right bearings to buy to do this for real, then I can fit up some lantis wheels and sell off my 6 stud stuff to clear some space and bring in some funds! :-D

YES! :-D Celebrated with some proper crisps as left over from having no visitors this week! And some wine, which I spilled, while discussing "brexit" with the Espanyola euro girl I married. She's sad. I'm unaffected, but feel like it's right, Britain was never really european at all and has been constantly controlled by what is effectively hitler's dream based in Brussels. About time? Interesting to see what comes of it all, anyway. Excuse politics. I have no idea what I'm on about anyway. :-)

Now that I have those 17" space saver rims I can start a legitimate search for the right tyres. 16" stuff with load/speed ratings suitable for the front of this truck just don't exist, but 17" is much more common.

Speed:

Assuming the ute could do something in the 10 to 12 second range, the speed it would end up at is something in the 120 to 140 MPH range, irrespectively. Thus speed ratings T, U, H, V, W, Y (118, 124, 130, 149, 168, 186 mph).

And load, well, I don't *really* know what the ute weighs as it sits (thoug I'd LOVE to), but we could guess in the 300-400 kg range pretty safely. It used to weigh 1600kg with me in it and 50/50 weight distribution with bullbars, so it'll be quite a few hundred less than that now, but a bit front heavy. Worst case 1400kg with 400 on front and 300 on rear. Probably less. Therefore load rating sould be 66 plus, and if worst case is true, 76 plus. Scale goes up to 90 for 600kg.

Ref for both speed and load is this site, which could well be very wrong: http://www.webbikeworld.com/Motorcycle- ... e-data.htm

And with that, I shall search.

Managed to re-find this thread: http://www.yellowbullet.com/forum/showt ... p?t=343573
Which links to this thread: http://www.yellowbullet.com/forum/showt ... p?t=327190
Which names this tyre: https://bluestreakracing.ca/tires-and-a ... 7-72w.html / this tyre: http://www.motorcycletire.com/product/PU03020558.html a Pirelli Diablo Rosso II Rear in 170/60ZR17 (72W)

As the tyre on this car:

Sourced from this photosuckit account: http://s256.photobucket.com/user/lpraci ... t=3&page=1

Interesting that the tyre comes in two load ratings, both W speed rating (168mph/270kph), 69/325kg and 72/355kg, which should be sufficient. Likely talking 500+ nzd for a pair of them, though. But that's not a huge deal at some point. I'll try hard to source the 72W version.

Excellent. :-D

EDIT: Those wheels come in 2.25" and 4.5" wide, I think the RX7 space savers are 4" wide, but that'll be OK. It won't sit quite as nicely as on that car, but nice enough.
