MA70 Supra With a Toyota 1UZ V8

Post by Jake Breyck »

Hi everyone, Here is one of my two projects this one is currently my daily driver. Its a 1991 toyota supra with a lexus/toyota 1uz-fe V8.

Im useing the stock non turbo manual transmission adapted at the bellhousing so im useing the automatic bellhousing, a Howe interal slave cyl due to there not being a place for a clutch fork on a auto belhousing, SR20 alminum radiator, stock ecu for the moment,

a friend of mine made the motor mounts. a member of lextreme.com made the custom flywheel. wireing was quite simple. dont know what else to add.

oh and comments are welcome :-) here are the pics.

Yeah, post more pics! :-)

I assume it's staying NA with the W5x box behind it? As good a box as they are, they aren't made for the thrashing a TT 1UZ can dish out.

I bet it goes nicely :-)

Any videos?

im accually thinking about a M112 supercharger from a cobra, turbos would be very diffacult on that motor in that engine bay,

Ive made 450hp with a W58 with no problems in the past with a turbo 7m, i broke a lot of things but never a transmission. granted my 7m never made the torque this motor will make with the charger. Considering the cost diffrence btween the w58 and the R154, I could swap out my trans with every clutch change and not even really bother me. if i had a R154 i would be screwed if it messed up.

The car goes like stink, the combanation of the very flat usable power band, all the weight i took out of the car, and the really low gearing (w58+NA 4.30 Diff) has made this thing fun.. the firs thing i knoticed wile drving around is a can basicly drive everywhere in 5th gear. 30mph in traffic, 5th gear no problem.. i haven had the car past about 90 but its winding out good at that speed. sorry i havent hooked up a tack yet so im not sure what rpm its at at 90mph gas milage sucks tho.

the car i only got running 2 weeks ago, those are about the best two pics i have. but i work at a paint shop so its only a matter of time before the car gets a spray and ill have nice glamor shots of that.

Here is a youtube video of one of the first startups with open header. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhHwaWE9uSE

stay tuned for info on my 1uz corolla :-)

The facelift ma70 has a "nose" at front, where as the pre-facelift the grill extends from one side to the other. Also the facelift model gets the nicer tail-lights that go from one side of the car to the other.

Widebody front and rear guards were an option for pre-facelift cars but standard on the facelift ma70's. :)

Have you seen what em_knaps is doing in his thread on lextreme? T56 with auto bell. Very clever idea he had there. VERY strong box.

He knew a guy with a TT 1uz caldina wagon that ate all but fourth each time he leant on it...
The car goes like stink
No real surprise there is it :-)
stay tuned for info on my 1uz corolla :-)
Give it its own thread, sounds like it deserves it :-)

He means jap market stuff probably, are you in the us of a?

oh ok. ya never heard that called the face lift. ive heard it as mid generation update, pre or post 89 and for the jdm types Zenki or Kouki

but ya its a 91, it had the later front end on it to begin with, also the later tail lights

although im still confused by the wide body ive never seen fenders that are diffrent. ive owned both pre and post 89 cars in the us, and lived in japan for a wile although im not so sure i ever saw a pre 89 car in japan but i saw a lot of post 89 cars

ide love to see what a narrow body mk3 looks like.

Just did some research, '86s didn't come widebody factory.
