Re: Mk 1 Mini
I found out what was wrong with my backup distributor the other day. The rotor had an internal short in it. The HT was going straight through the rotors insulation and into the points cam. It was an easier path than the distributor cap and the plug.
Times are changing for us old school drivers. Once upon a time, you could buy a handful of Mini rotors from any auto parts store. Now Repco don’t even know what you are talking about, but I did manage to find a replacement. (Not that I need a backup right?)
FreeEMS is going drag racing this weekend. It is a club event at an old air field.

Borrow a more reliable camera this time! :-)Spudmn wrote:FreeEMS is going drag racing this weekend. It is a club event at an old air field. :D
Also, if the memory card from last time is still untouched, consider installing the fat recovery software and running it over it.

Re: Mk 1 Mini
FreeEMS performed flawlessly again today.
What I thought was a drag race, turned out to be a single car straight sprint.
I still had a great day and I hope to post some videos in the next few days.

Great news :-)
Do you think you've picked up any performance? Or is it just too coarse in the MAP department to fine tune things?
The hotel drove a lot better with a FreeEMS ignition only tune on it, than it did stock.
Fred.

Re: Mk 1 Mini
I think it’s running better.
I haven’t done any tuning and I am running flat with regards to load. It is running well, when it comes up onto the cam, it pulls like a school boy.
I am kicking myself now. When I was getting consistent times I should have gone back to points to see if I was slower. I was having too much fun to think about that.
I want to sort out the dual map sensors next. Then the throttle position, CHT and IAT.

Re: Mk 1 Mini
The sub full load tune is more about response and economy than anything else. Where you picked something up, if anything, was in matching the advance curve to the engine exactly with respect to rpm.
I should add: The hotel dizzy wasn't working 100% right. And, when i got aggressive with light load timing the car would kick coming from trailing throttle due to the way the carbs went from nothing to something suddenly. So it needed backing out. I also got some surging on part throttles as it accelerated and then went into overrun by itself etc. It took a bit of fiddling to get it nice.
I look forward to seeing your dual map results! :-)
