Many years ago I built my own wasted spark system. I found my old ignition driver board the other day.

The system had a separate transistor for each coil and I was running one coil per plug. I wired a pair of transistors in parallel and drove them as a wasted spark system.



I had it running on a test motor but never got it running on a car. I was going to bring it back to life but then I found DIYEFI.

Recently I bought J722T driver and a pair of double ended coils off Trade Me (NZ for Ebay). Modern car parts make things so easy now. My whole board and box is now the size of a match box.


I mounted every thing onto a bracket and installed it in to the car.



This should work well. Now I just have to get my Puma board working so I can run it.

I have just finished installing an electric radiator fan inside the left arch. I still need to build the control circuit but for now I will wire it with a switch. When I am happy that it will do it's job I will remove the belt driven fan.

I have also mounted the VR sensor. I am happy with how the bracket turned out. Next step getting my Puma board working.

I had a great time racing my Mini at an Autocross last weekend. It was at Ardmore Airfield. I think I might need some new tires.

HOORAY!!! You're alive! :-) I've been meaning to get up early one morning and phone you to make sure, but it's not happened that I've remembered early enough yet.

Is it just me, or were those tyres a bit hard? The bottom one especially looks like it's had lots of chunks torn out of it? That typically doesn't happen to soft tyres, though, I have no idea what the surface of Ardmore is like :-)

I think Toyo do some small sizes in the R888, and maybe the R1R too, which is a street/track cross. I know a guy in SLC USA that runs them for autocross stuff, the R1R that is.

Did you check out my notes on clocks etc?

Yeah, I’m still here. Life has been cutting into my hobby time a lot and I’m still trying to get back to the Puma board.

I think your right. The tyres are hard. They are a second hand set that came with the mags. They have been in storage for who knows how long.

The part of Ardmore we got to use is like a cheese grater. I wanted to save my good tiers, so I used this set. Slower times but still had fun and was easier on the wallet.

Fair enough! If you want to pursue that line, you might find some good deals in second hand Jap tyres around Auckland, IF they have your size. What is the size, btw? I bet the OS guys would know exactly where to go, who to talk to and what to get for them :-) You know where to go to catch them ;-)
