Andy's 1996 Chevrolet S10 2.2L Truck

Post by DeuceEFI »

This is my daily driver, it is a base model S10 with an A/C system from a 2000 S10 4x4 that I installed as I got tired of being HOT in the summer.

1996 Chevrolet S10 standard cab short bed pickup truck

Powertrain:
  • Vortec 2200, RPO Code LN2, 2.2L 4 cylinder engine:
    • Displacement 2189 cc (133.6 cubic inches)
    • 89mm (3.5 inch) bore
    • 88mm (3.465 inch) stroke
    • 89 kW (120 hp)
    • 190 N*m (140 lb*ft) torque
    • 180 cc/minute (17 lbs/hour) injectors
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_Vortec_engine#2200
  • Transmission: 5-speed New Venture NV1500 manual

Engine sensors:
  • Crankshaft position sensor: 7x VR sensor connected to a 1995 Chevrolet S10 2.2L Ignition Control Module which uses the same type of ignition advance input and Bypass input that my 3.1L v6 DIS ignition control module uses. It outputs a 2 pulse per engine revolution and a 1 pulse per engine revolution signals. Both of these signals are 0v/5v digital outputs. Connected to the ICM are a pair of GM DIS ignition coils.
  • Camshaft position sensor: 1x 0v/12v Hall Effect sensor. It outputs a 1 pulse per engine cycle signal to be used as the sync pulse.
  • Decoder offset: 0.00 degrees
  • CHT - Coolant Temperature input
  • IAT - Intake Air Temperature input
  • MAP - Manifold Absolute Pressure input
  • TPS - Throttle Position Sensor input
  • O2 - Wideband Oxygen Sensor input
  • BRV - Battery Reference Voltage input
The plan is to install the Jaguar A2 prototype board that I etched at home with several modifications such as:
Analog Devices ADUM1201WRTZ Digital Isolator
2.5v voltage divider input for the RPM0- and RPM1- inputs of the MAX9926 IC

More details to follow...

Just a quick 2022 update:
The S10 is still going and still running a Jaguar 0.7-alpha PCB on FreeEMS.

Awesome to hear! I often wonder how many are still running FreeEMS. The ones I know of:

My junk, on and off, Volvo 244 full time, ute when it runs, KP on ignition, hotel when it runs
Jeff's truck AFAIK is still on it and being used? Jeff, confirm?
Rob's R33 still has it, but it's garage bound a lot like my ute.
John's AE86 had it until recently, but I believe he's looking to dual-ECU same-loom the car - someone talked him into gutting ugh lunk bruh :-D

Most every other car/owner faded out, I think? Would love to hear that I'm wrong and there are more lurking using it.

Thanks for that post, meant a lot to me even if it was only a few words :-)
