Cruiser or FreeEMS device

Post by ToxicGumbo »

I'm looking for a Cruiser or anything that can run the FreeEMS firmware for testing purposes. Not a lot of cash, but will do my best if someone has something to offer. The new Cruisers are pretty expensive.

Consider this my xmas present to you. Time frame unknown, but I should be able to put together a cruiser for you with bits I have laying around, mostly. Just need a PCB, which isn't expensive. I'll hit Andy up about the new design and maybe build a couple of them for fun. It's been ages since I soldered anything anyway. The weekly soldering parties devolved into weekly coding parties, instead.

I need to look up my notes, but if all is well, it might look a bit like this:

Fred, that's tremendously generous and I'm humbled by the offer. I hate to take up your time, talent, and money on such a project, but won't decline either. Thank you. If at any point it has to fall way back on priority (or not end up happening), no worries. :)

I had pointed out this board before and--prior to your offer--and there was something mentioned in conversation that suggested the chip might not work for our purposes. I would much rather have a Cruiser (currently based on the same MC9S12XDP512MAL...though I wonder if the eBay one is a Chinese counterfeit), but if your time becomes consumed by firmware development and support and you think this would be useful for benchtesting purposes only, let me know. DeuceEFI sent me a CoolEFI BDM some time ago.

Thanks for the continued motivation and hope.

Least I can do! Keen to try out the new design and melt some stuff for fun. I need some pleasure time, too, and one of these new ones for me would be a good way to do more dev "on the road" so to speak. We'll build a small batch. It won't take long and will be fun.

For a start, that board has no USB on it, so you'd have to rig that up off board. Clock frequency may not be compatible, too.
