If your pads lifted off, you got it way way too hot. You should not rely on traces to keep pads in place... the pad is bonded to the glass substrate unless you get it so hot that you destroy that bond. This tends to only happen to me when desoldering things, and then only sometimes; usually when it's not the first desolder for that PCB location.

Agreed, thank you Fred. As I am perfecting a SMD technique, am finding you walk a fine line between keeping it hot enough to do it quick and not hot enough to do it quick. Also I think my iron lies a little about the tip temperature. That aside I can attest to the fact that this board has 110 out of 112 good looking joints. Of course always buyer beware when deeling with some guy who built the thing in his basement :) I haven't testing these things + my soldering under severe vibrational loads. Who of us can?

LOL, fair enough. FWIW, I run my iron well hot enough to ruin the board, but keep the joints quick. I lower it if I'm flood soldering such as CPU or FTDI.

here is the good board I just finished for nonamebrand:

Here is the "blemished" board I used for practice, but still should work and is only $17:

Tack it in 1 or 2 or 3 places before you get busy. I guess you did that for nonamebrand. Then if you don't line it up perfectly the first time, you can soften and slide until it is, then once it is, tack more and more until stable, then flood. In any case, 17 is an absolute bargain for a working CPU on a Jaguar board! :-)

yikes, shipping from my post office that's about $25 also--small flat rate box. Is there a better method of international shipment?

I think the (size of) box is the killer. Would a bubble envelope do the trick?
$25 for sending + $17 is a bit steep for me. Otherwise I would take it in a heartbeat (say like $5 shipping or so)

Okay yes that looks much cheaper. I didn't know the envelopes can be up to 20mm thick--so I could probably stack something rigid in there--to make it reasonably safe. That's about $6.
