Apology for possible disruption this morning

Post by Fred »

Well, I'm ashamed to admit that I let the server run out of disk this morning, or perhaps better this last three years. It was like that for about 3 hours in total. I've resolved it and am working towards eliminating a repeat performance. Apologies if you tried to post this morning and could not.

Server is working super hard this morning. bzip2 is doing overtime. scp is not sleeping. md5sum is gasping for breath.

Disk space is on the rise, and rapidly!

A few causes to sort out, getting through them gradually. Should be in good shape before COB today.

146.185.251.139 < This Russian IP has been hitting half a dozen of my sites every 10 seconds each for a long time. Now blocked with:

Code: Select all

iptables -A INPUT -s 146.185.251.139 -j DROP
That ought to slow the rate of disk usage significantly... :-/

Needs a better fix, though. Will have to find time in the coming months.

EDIT and these:

Over 4 hours spent, final result, over half of the disk is free, a few problems have been identified and a partial fix has been put in place for one of them. Should be good for another 3 years :-p I jest. I'll put some further time into cleaning this up later in the winter after the pressure is off.

Did as many updates as I could afford to, too. Still a few easy chores to take care of, then a few slightly painful/annoying ones. Gotta do them sometime.
