I have three types of data on the box:
1) Stuff in git repos (that's all of the html and php sites) 2) Stuff in databases (mainly just this forum, the others are pretty static and will be converted to static at some point) 3) System setup/config, no, that's in git, too ;-) mostly. 4) Downloads and random files which could vanish tomorrow and i wouldn't care.
1 is taken care of, I just need to automate it a little more than it is and add some checks for my behaviour 2 should be automated, but currently is not, I do it periodically, especially after a burst of great forum info that I do not want to lose 3 is taken care of in 1 mostly 4 doesn't matter much
The host has a service, but it's no good for the database because of the way it works, so there's no point using it.
We're not in bad shape overall, the main thing is that I dump the forum regularly.
Fred.

Backups are good!
All new Dropbox accounts and downloads, including the desktop and mobile apps, are totally free. Dropbox accounts start with 2 GB of free space. offsite backups are better. I think dropbox ( and a dozen others) have a "mirrored folder" that can be used drag and drop any files anytime.

Backups of your emails and crackable passwords will not be stored in an NSA-vulnerable service like that. They're vulnerable as is on the very server I try so hard to keep secure. It's overdue, though, expect a notification here soon.

Yes, it did then, and has now, too. Everything except this post! Thanks for the bump :-)

I use duplicity http://duplicity.nongnu.org/ for GPG encrypted incremental backups. Seems to work well.

All of the files are in git, it's just the databases that change regularly and need an automated solution. The git stuff is semi automated already. I can fully automate it once I have DSL again.

Firstly, shame on me. Secondly, this is up to date again as of now.
