Does anyone know of a good supplier for a thermocouple that would work well, and mount up nicely to the in and out of an Intercooler?

I'd like to be able to read incoming temps, outgoing temps, and calculate the difference. but I can't seem to find a nice pre-made automotive thermocouple? Any advice?

Not sure if this helps or not, but you could the one I'm using for my small engine project. I've got some information about it on the sourceforge wiki. The sensor is something like $.25 each.

I was at work where they block all SF pages. Pain in the nuts, but that's their choice. Any how, here's some more about the parts mentioned above.

But I think I'll just stick with a OEM part that has a thread so it can be installed with a bung.

Just make sure it's/they are open element. The closed ones are just too slow to see the transients you will be getting during shifts etc.

The thinnest gauges of these TypeK elements (.002", .001", and .0005") respond quick enough to see individual combustion events. They don't last but a few minutes in an exhaust port, but if you need that kind of response there's no substitute.

The key this fellow is looking for a is a pre-made unit, with mounting option. I'm also guessing he wants it with electrical connector. It's low temp so it can be a standard off the shelf sensors. These are panel mount, and might be a bit larger than you want, but they are also about $100, so they are fairly low cost.

You can find a wide range of thermocouples on their site as well. With many mounting options and wire connection options. These units have relay outputs. So if you want an alarm or some such thing based on temperature, you can use the relay output to do something.

I'm sure there are folks that make more sexy automotive versions of these as well.

Do you specifically require the precision of a thermocouple or would a couple of IAT sensors work??
Were you after something with a calibrated gauge??

Yea, I think I'll go with a open element GM IAT sensor - although I hear that some have vibration problems. But at least bungs in aluminum and steel are readily available.

Farnell sell some thermocouple probes that are only 1.5mm in diameter.
