I thought this was an open project?

It is, but there is no point discussing something that is far from being implemented. Especially when no one else has done this before and big mouthing about future plans could mean we aren't first or worse it gets copyrighted or patented or something before we get a chance to implement it. It doesn't matter at the end of the day really. But I don't want to hold up a neon sign saying "do this first" either...

Fair enough. I have put a fair amount of thought into the same concept even before joining the site, so I am regularly tempted to bring it up.Admin wrote:It is, but there is no point discussing something that is far from being implemented. By the way, the technical term is a "point cloud". There's lots of papers out there about surface-fitting point clouds.

That's not the tech term for what I have in mind, but they are probably one and the same thing at the end of the day :-) It's a good thing this thread has a somewhat uninteresting title! ;-)
