I have a 2003 Yamaha R1 engine that I will be installing freeEMS on in the near future. Right now it makes 165HP. I wish to raise its output with a turbo, to about 220HP. I am told 220 ish is about the max you can make with stock parts.
I need advice on what turbo will work well for this application. This engine will eventually go into a desert/sand rail.
Here are the specifics on the engine.
liquid cooled
.98L inline 4 cylinder 20-valve
11,700 RPM redline
Thanks,
Sean

Not personally but I recognized it.
What about this. TD04HL-16T-6
Would make for a nice self contained setup with plenty of room to grow.

He's the author of MT, I was trying to be funny.seank wrote:Not personally but I recognized it.
As always you need to size your compressor to flow the air you need and your turbine to spool when you want and choke acceptably.
The trouble with a bike (but not a sand rail) is that if it comes on boost suddenly it could throw you off.
TD04 is probably a good choice, certainly they are cheap enough to play around with :-)
Fred.

I am budget minded!
I'll see if I cant find one at a junk yard in the next few weeks.

I've got an IHI rhb5 from a 2.2L Mazda...it's probably smaller than what you are looking for though. I also have one that needs rebuilding I would part with for the cost of shipping ~$20 or so if you are interested.

It's probably sized about right. I'll do a little more research on it.
Thanks for the offer,
