Sensor And Logging Ideas

Post by Fred »

Ideally, a datalog from a car will contain EVERYTHING that you could possibly measure about that car, period. This isn't practical, but creating a thread with such a listing might be. So I'm going to try, with your help. I'll update this first post with everyone's suggestions, at my discretion.

All normal engine parameters are a given. Don't bother with the core stuff, though I may list some. Extra parameters, though, fire away.

Engine Bonus Sensors
  • Oil Pressure
  • Oil Temperature
  • Fuel temperature in rail
  • Fuel temperature in tank
  • Fuel pressure at pump
  • Fuel pressure in rail
  • Fuel pressure post regulator
  • Turbo RPM
  • Wastegate position
  • Exhaust back pressure sensor
  • Wideband per cylinder (mostly NA engines)
  • EGT per cylinder
  • Ambient air temperature (normal NA IAT signal)
  • Ambient air pressure (normal AAP signal)
  • Pre-intercooler air temperature
  • Pre-intercooler air pressure
  • Post-intercooler air temperature (normal boosted IAT signal)
  • Post-intercooler air pressure
  • Across throttle pressure drop
  • Across intercooler pressure drop
  • Across turbocharger pressure gain
  • Manifold air temperature
  • Manifold air pressure (normal MAP signal)
Driver Inputs
  • Steering angle
  • Brake pedal in use/not
  • Brake line pressure, front and rear
  • Handbrake handle angle and/or cable pressure
  • Clutch switch and/or pedal angle and/or hydraulic pressure and/or actuator angle
  • Gear selection sensor
Vehicle Dynamics
  • GPS positions (front and rear)
  • 4 * shock pots
  • 4 * wheel speed sensors
  • N axis accelerometers (more than one for attitude determination)
  • Gyroscope
Body Features
  • Door locks
  • Key position
  • Window positions
  • Seatbelt plugged/not
  • AC on/off
  • Fan on/off/high/low/duty
  • Rear window heater on/off
OK, your turn! Go :-)
