Dan's Flowbench

Post by Dan »

I have been collecting parts for the last 12 months to build a flowbench to flow test cylinder heads.

Today I am machining up an cylinder bore adapter to enable correct measurement of flow through my 4AGE 20V head which will almost complete my list of required parts.

I am planning on using electronic pressure sensors such as those used in the EMS land (MPX variety) and reading them with a microcontroller and displaying flow on an LCD screen (16x4 probably).

I have vacuum cleaner motors ready for the vacuum source to be assembled and I now only need to build the actual physical bench.

My goal is to flow my head in standard form and then play with various port arrangments on spare heads I have and make a technical analysis of the "best" way to port my head to suit my needs.

The bench will be calibrated using calibrated orifice plates available for purchase from various places in the USA. Once that is completed I will be able to successfully flow test accurately.

I have been wanting to build this for a while now.

Should be a fun little project!

EDIT: pics of adapter added.
