Waterproofing worked out well today, at least: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 5997045761
Even if it wears down with time, it should be a while before there's no oily coating left and the rust begins. It hadn't taken long for the rust to form in the hex holes full of water and out in the weather all the time attached to the caravan.

Re: A-frame Design & Construction Thread
Centre to centre spacing of bolts with current/caravan spacer set up and I think that's the same for the ute is approx 720mm and the bolt holes are on 40mm centres up and down or back and forward depending on what you're doing. 12.5mm min bolt holes, 14 gives some wiggle room and room for error. I'll go down and try to accurately measure the width and confirm/deny/adjust the 720mm number in a little while.

Re: A-frame Design & Construction Thread
660mm inside edge to inside edge, 56mm width of hinge brackets = 716mm width, centre to centre, not 720, so I'll have to bore those hotel holes out to 16mm each to make it slip on fine, I guess that's okay for a one-off - not terrible anyway. Oops.

Re: A-frame Design & Construction Thread
Next victim has strong points centred on 650mm so a total of 66mm outside that to the centres of the bolts and thus 33 per side, minus half of the thickness of these strong points = centres of bolts are 33 minus 6 = 27 out from the strong points - minus another max 12 for plate, likely 10 or even 6 is 15 radius available for nuts and that's about what they are IIRC If I go with 10mm plate then 17 radius is 34 available is ample. Gusset from the inside plate to the cross member and bingo. Might make a lighter duty A-frame for this task, though, but will make it to the same dimensions as the strong one IF I do.

Re: A-frame Design & Construction Thread
Assumption above is that the 650 points are symmetrical - they may not be - I should check that before placing any A-frame bolt holes in the contraption.
