My thought was we could basically poll-and-decode 'digital' information sent to a display.... To get actual serial data from an LC-1 would take "paying attention", and "buffers" and things. Maybe I'm thinking it's more complicated than it is, but mostly I keep hearing serial coms have lots of overhead.

Yeah, BUT, you could do serial comms with another chip and transmit over CAN or IIC2 or SPI instead.

Another test without a pretty chart, but with a MOTEC unit in it.

Sadly not as good a test as the other, I think. I guess the next best thing is a test purely for dynamic response, though how to ensure full mixing could make it tough. Guess you need a turbo and a weird muffler.

Yay! I finally heard back from Allan. He said the communication to the display is digital (so I guess we could steal this), and that in general people have been telling him the JAW agrees within between 0 and 0.2 AFR with the innovative.

It draws 200 mA, down to 100 w/o the display, so my guess is it could piggyback in a FreeEMS case, or (if he shares designs) get built right into the i/o board.

I wonder how hard it would be to build into my existing MS case....

PWM heater noise could be an issue. Probably best to not do that, but if you do, make sure you do it right.

Yeah, true that. It should be a 12 V issue, hopefully somewhat external... I dunno. It'd cost as much to get a full jaw and mod it as it would a fancy guage. It would cost less than either to just keep living with my crappy gauge (my current plan)

moates.net ometer or just the DVM module... how accurate do you want to get, either of those well exceed the sensor and controller in accuracy.

Fred.

There's an A/D and a D/A and they both will have some error, as well as transmission errors due to noise, etc.

It's hard to imagine the best way to communicate something accurately is to turn it into an analog signal then turn it back again.

I hear cellphones will be switching at analog, as well as the next generation of blueray discs and GPS as well. So maybe I'm misthinking this.

I totally agree that digital is superior for this purpose, BUT, the inaccuracy is well less than the sensor, controller, and your ability to comprehend the information at the speed it is coming through to your eyes. I'm just saying that it is an excellent practical thing to do, not that it is the best thing to do. I hope you see where I'm coming from now.
