You know you are a REAL car enthusiast when...

Post by Fred »

Typed that thread title several weeks ago after the following really happened :

...you see the handles of a womans red leather handbag sticking up past the edge of the table and wonder why shes got a pair of jumper cables on a train.

^ Yes, I really thought that for a few seconds before I came to my senses. I mean really, why would a woman have some 2ga jumper cables on a train at 730am in London?? no... I'm just obsessed.

Also :

...you are typing about how little sleep you have had and spell the word "tyred" ...

(yanks may not get that one, but Canadians should!)

And yes, I've really done that too, and many other similar things.

Your turn, prove it :-)

When your 3yo daughters friends come over for her birthday party, and you manage to ask every one of their parents what they drive before the day is done.

Building a robot for work, with a 5 mph top speed... I offset all the weight low and rear, because "if you gotta slam on the brakes on the freeway, you don't want to weight transfer everything off the rears".

Yeah. It doesn't even have wheels.

Just remembered this one which I also do regularly :

...you are typing about how strong something is and you say "you might brake it" ...

...yes, I really do that...

...the local cops know you on a first name basis...

(not anymore, but when I was younger they did, and more importantly, I knew exactly which unmarked cars were operating 99% of the time)

When other car enthusiasts in your life tell you that you talk about cars too much.

When someone asks you what you've done to your car, and you say "Um, I guess nothing, really"

Your office smells like an auto shop because you're using pistons as pen holders, valves as paper weights a cylinder head as a desk leg and an old headlight to light the room.

When you are nearly 30 and you still slide the super market trolley around like a wanna be drift king.

When you sprint through the tube station tunnels not because you are late, but so you can slide the corners like roadrunner might have in your leather soled shoes.

When in the London underground you can often be seen pretending to shift hard into second.

And making a blow off noise at just the right moment...

All true, such a child... :-)
