Keep us informed on what that little beast is like to live with, I'm quite interested in getting one for tuning my car + other ultra portable stuff, you can't beat the battery life 6 hours is awesome! they spec up to 8 hours, but i expect that includes a lot of static time. i doubt very much you gave it any chance to rest!

I didn't work it hard, but I was tapping away constantly doing this and that. It has 68% left right now, and I unplugged it at 7:30 on the train. It's been playing music the entire time too. 2:20 for 32%, yep, it should run 6 hours just fine I'd say.

So far I REALLY like it. I can type on it, and the linux is the right sort and the build quality seems good. Everything works nicely. Can't complain. Only the brit keyboard is a bit annoying, but even the US one on these is a bit of a pain due to the arrow key placement and shift displacement.

Over 4 hours now, sitting in bed, installing/fiddling etc and its got 37% left still :-)

I could definitely get used to this!!!

java6 is in, just need to sort out svn now, it looks like I can't have xv on this though, some libraries deps are broken :-(

Officially its 4.2 - 7.8 but 5 - 6 seems to be what i get with moderate to heavy use.

Living with it said dave...

right hand side shift key is too small (knew that before purchase)
mouse buttons are on the stiff side
uk keyboard is a bit annoying

can't really fault it in any other way so far.

I just LOVE it :-)

So, either my usb controller screwed up too, or I broke it while I had it apart, or some software has gone screwy, but no more keyboard or usb storage on the big machine either... I'm now exclusively using the EEE pc, however with a twist :-)

Who hasn't heard of synergy? google it if you have two+ computers. It is very cool. The keyboard and mouse are plugged into the eee and I'm typing this into the other one on the 20" :-)

Last night I plugged the 20" into the eee and watched the first episode of topgear in ages on it. The resolution was just the 1024 600 stock one, stretched over the big screen, but it was clear enough to use as a TV without issues :-) I wonder if there is anything the little toy CAN'T do?? :-)

I use quick-synergy at work - its great!!!

The client on my deb laptop crashes every now and again, but it is deb unstable so...

otherwise works very well :-)

Only at it's own resolution, so not 100% clear, but good enough for watching top gear on :-)

well, i had it on at work the other day and after 2 hours use in the morning it lasted an extra 5 before running out. thats right, 7 hours :-) mint. when thrashing it i only get 6, but thats heaps! :-)

It now has 2gig of RAM in it. Funny story about that...

Went into PC world to pick up a stick that I had put aside for me, stick put aside was 42 quid. Noticed a faster stick otherwise identical for 30 quid. Perfect. Went to the counter and asked for it and a check on price for both. She asked if I wanted it, I said yes, I'd like to see it, compare the two versions, rip open my laptop with my screwdriver and put it in to ensure it works before driving home for 45mins only to find that it didn't.

Seems reasonable I thought...

"it's not antistatic, we use anti static desks"
"but it doesn't NEED to be antistatic" - "what about on that desk over there out of the way?"

"how could I possibly sue you if i walk in here without your permission and damage my own computer with my own tools?" - "is british law that screwed up?"
"it's an ocupational health and safety issue too"

"lol, are you worried about this little thing?" - "there you go, it's gone!" <put it in my pocket>
"so you are going to make me go and do this on the car outside?"

Goes to queue, disassembles laptop in arms while waiting, pays with one hand, walks out, places eee on boot of car, installs ram, fires it up, goes back in and thanks the guy "it didn't rain, also, it fitted and works fine, thanks" <didn't laugh, failed to see funny side again>

Is my sense of humour that difficult to comprehend??? Is it that unreasonable to expect to use a desk to install a stick of flipping ram? hmmmmmmmm

Bear in mind, I wasn't being agro with them at all, just basically asking lots of questions about why etc. Of course, the real reason is that they want to charge me another 30 quid to whip the back off and put the bastard in... screw that, they might damage it!
