Moral of the story, never ever EVER use a thermostat that doesn't have mazda/toyota/nissan/bmw/vw on the packet and cost twice as much. Because they are all rubbish. OEMs don't call their thermstats "superstat" either ;-)

It's a remotely technical thing. And, I'm not convinced the mazda is any better. Perhaps, but not for sure. FYI, the thermo that came out of my car (can't say for sure it was what came in it, but a 1 year old car doens't have a lot of replacement parts in it) and the one I ordered from Mazda both opened a hell of a lot less and a bit later than my generic, cheapest-I-could-get NAPA part, which I believe to be a STANT part.

And I'd pretty highly recommend it. It cleared up a lot of my issues.

Remotely being the key word ;-)

Issues like what? Running a turbo on a car with known cooling inadequacies in NA trim without upgrading the radiator? Pressure is a good thing to have in your head, partial opening is there for that reason, if the water is coming in too hot, that's a different problem.

I'm just speculating, but it doesn't sound too far fetched that you would fail to upgrade the cooling while doubling the power output :-p

I've also learned the hard way on my Subie that Thermostats are not something to be messed with.

Love the video! I love Nerds who can talk well.

You called my beer making buddy a nerd?

Well, since he spent days measuring his miata to mount it to a frame along with a steering wheel, etc, just so he could play grand turismo with the same driving seating position he normally drives in, maybe I'll agree.

But his last name is Perez. Isn't that pretty cool?
