Best Value Wireless Mouse? Wired considered.

Post by Fred »

I picked up a Logitech M305 in China when I was there about three years ago, now. It's been pretty good, mostly. It eats an AA Duracell once per month or two, which is OK considering how much I use it (~18 hours a day, typically). The centre-click on the wheel is prone to rolling the wheel which can be annoying as centre-click is used for pasting previously selected content in Linux. That's probably my only real complaint, I guess.

But, as of about a week ago, the right click button has become VERY intermittent (1/10 or less works). This is driving me nuts and slowing me down. I took it apart to see if it could be fixed, but without replacing the contact switch (which I'm up for, if someone can find the part), it seems like a "no". Here's how they look new:

And here after 3 years use:

<I can't ask for a new one if I haven't tried to fix it>
<pulls it apart>
<pulls switch off board>
<pulls switch apart>
<damages switch and can't reassemble even though he cleaned the TINY contacts>

The culprit switch:

And the front/back of the board:

And the guts of the switch:

<remembers box of parts from DeuceEFI>
<fits normal tactile switch SMD style standing on tip toes>
<two hours later, reliable right clicks>

My genius kiwi repair job, which DeuceEFI may recognise some of...

The final touch to make it work was to trim the heads from the plastic rivets, otherwise the button was protected by them. They're VERY thin now...

Not really a good use of 2 hours, though... but likely good enough to see this place out, so I'll hold off on getting another for the time being.

What should I replace it with? And, as with the headphone thread, is anyone willing to hook me up with one as a donation to help me survive the near-30% unemployment rate here in Spain?
