Ugly or not I think we both know which one you'd have more fun driving. Assuming that a VeeDub transaxle could take that much abuse.

I forgot to include the link to it. It'll probably be gone in about 3 days unless somebody caches it.

Yeah, I don't know that I agree. Mid-fifties VW beetles weigh about 700kg with full trim, 300hp is easy to come by from low capacity turbo engines, 300hp with 700kg = really fast, really fast = really fun? :-)

Ya, but all aluminum V8s aren't too heavy. It should have a fairly flat torque curve. Most importantly, it's liquid cooled, so that you don't freeze your ass off in the winter.

You've clearly never experienced the awesomeness that is a fully functional VW exhaust powered heater. You hit the key with the heat/fan/windscreen demister on full, and it clears faster than any modern car, IF it's just mist. I always found them very effective. Then again, they're not often fully functional :-)

One of my friends from high school had one. It was a little monster with about 33 inch tires. We'd take it coyote hunting, because it did better in the hard snow than my truck. It also did better on gas. But I absolutely hated it on cold mornings, because that heater wasn't worth a shit at high speeds.

First rule of the VW beetle, if an engine exists, it has found its way into the beetle. :-)

My favourite is rotary swaps. They're probably the only water cooled engine that I'd put in one.
