I use duplicity http://duplicity.nongnu.org/ for GPG encrypted incremental backups. Seems to work well.

It doesn't matter how many layers it has; if it hasn't been peer reviewed, it should never be used.

A dyno is useful for holding the engine at a certain load/speed. The numbers it produces are for masturbatory purposes.

I believe it is just the latest snapshot, which can be useful in many situations.
