Re: Neil's Fiat/Bertone X1/9

After some philosophication and study I can see what I did wrong. The retainer has been staked to stop it from turning and I removed enough stake to get it to loosen but the thread is on the outside and as soon as it came into contact with the staked metal it jammed. A full size 19mm spanner was too...

Re: Neil's Fiat/Bertone X1/9

Wynne's stop-leak is holding so tried to get it through roadworthy/mot/whatever its called in your country. Failed on steering, surprisingly. Removed steering box, found a bush was .. um .. just look at the picture ex-bush.JPG Incredibly, found a replacement from the local Lancia man. Came with a de...

Re: Neil's belated and painfully slow 0.4 alpha build

That's the logical explanation but I can't see what. Everything that I can see on that circuit is either unsoldered or the traces cut. Yes I will proceed without the clamp for the meantime and maybe add it back later. The smd tl431 seems to be unobtanium here and not sure about the specs for the thr...

Re: Neil's belated and painfully slow 0.4 alpha build

Sadly it wasn't that. It was the very last thing I could possibly unsolder, the regulator itself. Seems to have internal low resistance. almost a short. Replaced it and it still gets hot, but I can still hold it after 60 secs whereas before I had 3rd degree burns after 20 secs. Nothing a heat sink w...

Re: Neil's Fiat/Bertone X1/9

Good point. The pipes have two 45 degree kinks at both ends so I need to find someone to bend it or buy a pipe bender. If copper, I could solder 45 degree joiners on. Zinc-ali will be much cheaper than stainless. Clearly he had pipe corrosion before, the coolant heated choke is rusted off and one of...

Re: Neil's Fiat/Bertone X1/9

The car is sort of driveable now. I'm trying to hack it enough to it it roadworthied and running out of time. Still not happy with the brakes but they are much better. I must have bled about 15 litres of brake fluid now. Biggest problem is the coolant pipes. I can see the belly pan has been cut open...

Re: Neil's belated and painfully slow 0.4 alpha build

The regulators are at risk even from handling the board (I'm clumsy). I haven't found any enclosure even vaguely the right size so I don't know what I'm going to put this in. analog_power.jpg Here's the analog PS. If you look carefully you can see some traces cut in preparation for the smd map senso...

Neil's belated and painfully slow 0.4 alpha build

The target vehicle turned out to have serious problems which I am still battling with, but I belatedy started building the board anyway with the thought of using it as a test for edis on a rover v8. The board arrived from Andy with smd's already installed. A work of art before I started my slash and...

Ode to the PO

How do I hate thee? Let me count the ways Take the accelerator cable. Its just a simple cable. 1) Wrongly routed though the firewall requiring a 120 degree turn to go to the throttle mechanism 2) Cable itself buggered as a result. 3) Wrongly routed speedometer cable fouled the pedal mechanism. 4) Pe...
