Re: 2000 Miata Turbo, nice and easy "56k is it's own reward"

Oh that's horrid. Ideally, I would gear it down by a factor of pi.

13pi teeth per revolution, or, 8.8147353097049724425843315098623....degrees per tooth. Unevenly spaced of course.

Maybe gap = TDC - e^(degrees from tooth)^.5 or something, you know, for better accuracy near ignition events.

Ha. I don't know how much I like the stock sensors. Certainly the mechanical design of them is such that the signal is well buried in the noise floor. Add to that the fact you get nearly no refrences.... Anyway, the current plan is to leave the OEM one hooked up just for interestingness' sake. It wo...

Re: Reflow Fred Style! :-)

That's what I was getting at. If he's just measuring it to develop that, then he's right on track. Just somehow in my roll-outta-bed-read-hungover-while-gathering-wits-needed-to-urinate state I read it in, it sounded like he plans on doing just that to do his soldering: Bring it up @ full power, tur...

Updating The Miata

This seems a dumb thread to post in, but I can't think of a more fitting one. Wow. So. It's been like years since I touched anything (important) on this car. But now with other things in my life eased up (no job, no girlfriend, no reason to live) I thought, hey! Let's finish up the Mazda. But now I ...

Re: Reflow Fred Style! :-)

Oh, Kapton Tape, and a bit of thermal grease to take up any gap. Totally the way to go. It's either that or a clamp (hard to keep things level) or a screw (works awesome, but then you're taking the temp of the screw not the board. If you're sitting on $50,000 you can get a nice IR camera and take the...

Re: Reflow Fred Style! :-)

I'm not getting why you need a controller if you're just turning it on full for a bit then turning it off? That's not a controller, that's a timer. How slow does it heat up with door open? My suggestions are crack door and have a fan in there that can circulate the air all the time. Will cool down n...

Re: Logic Sniffer - LA

Ooooh, I like the leads.

FYI, you can pull pins, it's cleaner than cutting them. In the past, I've taken a narrow dremel cut off wheel, and put a slit in a pair of pliers. Then you can push the pins out the back pretty easily.

Re: Reflow Fred Style! :-)

Will install the insulation and put it back together for a zero to tstat timer test. Follwed by a tstat to zero test. Hopefully some pics of the hilarity and housefires and so on tomorrow. Don't feel bad, I'm sure lots of people had their first reflow ovens over insulated. You'll probably be in goo...
