Re: freeSim firmware: Suggestions, requests and feedback thread

I agree that error handling should be as benign as possible. Having said that, it might be a complex thing to try to achieve. You not only have to notice the issue, you have to interpret it and act accordingly. Acting the wrong way and firing a coil could destroy a boosted motor in a heartbeat so c...

Re: Crank+Cam based input pattern support requests thread

I should also add that because of the other things I mentioned, the tooth count in them is usually small, and thus the gaps between the teeth get larger, and consequently the ability for the engine to accelerate and change rpm between the EMS's only way of knowing about it is much greater. If you p...

Re: Crank+Cam based input pattern support requests thread

Quite simply because of slack between cam and sensor, slack in drive from crank to cam, back and forward lash from the valve train (particularly at high revs and even more so with large cams). Admin. Very good insight! I hope smart averaging can take care of that. In addition, i think that this sla...

Re: Best Warm-Up Logic?

Good thread during the initial testing phase, i think it would be reasonable to warm up the engine with a stock ECU or MS (if opportunity exists), then swap the hardware and test it on the warmed-up engine. In regards to stable idle, etc.. : i suspect that all the factors, which worsen the idle, may...

Re: Crank+Cam based input pattern support requests thread

yes, the wheel moves with the cam and therefore the cam phase moves too (in respect to the crank). yes, single vanos is on off, but i plan to experiment with feeding PWM to it and setting the cam advance continuously while monitoring the cam phase through the cam trigger, just like what's done on du...

Re: Crank+Cam based input pattern support requests thread

Well you know a bit about my intentions, so i'll be brief my wheel is a german popular 60-2 kind. With half-moon cam wheel (1 tooth) the cam phase however moves about 18-20deg due to the vanos mechanism on modern BMWs. There are a lot of enthusiasts all around world with these single-vanos engines (...

Re: Fire, FIRE Fawlty, FIRE!!!!

sorry to hear, my younger brother had figured out the way to set the deepfryer on fire. The sight of the instant flames was quite scary, but thankfully he was brave/stupid enough to jump in towards the flames and open the water tap (thankfully the oil spilled inside the sink), which got rid of the f...
