Re: '81 Mini Clubman Estate

"Testicular fortitude" :lol2: Honestly, there are multiple reasons for not driving this car in the rain. I think it might be impossible to make a clubman estate not fill with water. :( Well, possible if you keep it out of the rain, soo :) I've driven it to MOT (TÜV) last december at 0°C in...

Re: '81 Mini Clubman Estate

1) I'll use the German term then, for maximum entertainment: "Frischhaltefolie" :D 2) Those are Yokohama A032, 165/70/10. As you can imagine, I don't drive when it rains. ;) 3) Yeah the center piece is all welded in with little dots about 2 cm apart over the entire horizontal length. Too b...

Re: Mobile vice and small anvil / welding table

and a shitty no-glove arm-inside-tube weld around the perimeter from only the top side. Haha, that sounds like so much fun :D No envy here :) didn't come close to breaking what's already there. Then it definitely won't come apart, ever. I too have some Völkel taps. Never had particular problems wit...

Re: '81 Mini Clubman Estate

More attachments... Unfortunately, I don't have pics of all the spot welds and tinning in between. Might be able to snap some from video footage, which hasn't made its way to me yet. Anyhow, now all those rusty seams and awkward looking parts on the rear are gone and it looks like it should've in th...

Re: '81 Mini Clubman Estate

Lots has been done to this car this year. The rear end had rust on the corners, as did the rear bumpers. Because the bumpers were bolted directly to the body without any kind of compression possibility, the corners of the car were dented in (?) and I never liked the flat plate where the license plat...

Re: Big DIY Belt Grinder Build (planning)

Well, as expected, stuff shows up some time in life :) Not exactly what I had wished for, but it's already done a job so it's been paid for. I might be able to swivel the band into vertical position, haven't tried that yet. Needs a perpendicular table. Cost me 200 € and 20 km car ride, and had five ...

Re: Mobile vice and small anvil / welding table

Very nice, that is one sturdy vice stand :) So did you weld something to the inside for the M14 "tension system"? :D (that has a really sophisticated ring to it)

Re: Big DIY Belt Grinder Build (planning)

One minor detail, the platen should be made of hardened non-mild-steel and polished with radiused ends. That's true. The dust alone around the machine is abrasive. That's why machine shops often have a separate grinding room, because that dust quickly destroys the ways of all precision machines. Wh...

Re: Big DIY Belt Grinder Build (planning)

Aw man, belt grinder... Well, for sure a machine that I wished to have for a long time! Building it has been in the picture, but considering how I usually get lucky with cheap old industrial machines, I've been putting DIY off. Sorry that I can't chime in on this much - I really don't have a station...

Re: Mobile vice and small anvil / welding table

Glad to be of help :) Yeah one fat center bold should be alright, but I'm thinking M16 (preferably even larger). This quickly becomes a question of how much power the drill press has. :) When shimmed and tightened manly, I doubt you'll need any fasteners radially. You can still add those lateron, in...
