Just pulling a number out of my, ummm, 'ear', without doing any reading or math, I'd say you'd want that FAST toy to stick a good 2-3 feet past the sensor to avoid pulses sucking fresh air all over it.

A couple comments ... First, the sync loss over 2k on a 60-2 is a known issue with the MAX992x over on the VoldeSquirt forums. While the code is different, the chip is the same, and the proven solution is a 10k shunt resistor across the VR+ & VR- inputs. OK, so to understand VR sensors, you have...

Cool, questions, i like questions :) Ground wise, as you can see, the only things on PGND is the injectors and the low side drivers. They are all placed physicaly close to the PGND pins so that section of PCB could get poured with a PGND ground plane on top and bottom layer for a nice solid connect...
