Re: Arttu's MS3 compatible processor board

Some progress. I assembled the first board. After some struggling I managed to flash the bootloader on it and load benchtest code in. Then I was able to connect it with the EMStudio. Wohoo! I guess the next step is to learn how to make my own build configurations and put together a code version that...

Re: Arttu's MS3 compatible processor board

The CAN chip is there, page 3 of the schematic. I dropped off the stepper driver since I haven't seen any plans to support it in the firmware (of course I might be wrong on this).

Re: Arttu's MS3 compatible processor board

Neat! How many did you get made? Do I get a blank souvenir? :-D Sure! I got ten boards so there are some spares. I can probably arrange an assembled board for you if think you would have use for it. For future spins you need to choose a name for it. It's ok to put FreeEMS on it, but not as part of ...

Re: Arttu's MS3 compatible processor board

As promised here are some pictures about layout and routing. First the raw data: component placement, top component placement, bottom copper, layer 1 copper, layer 2 copper, layer 3 copper, layer 4 And a couple of screenshots that are hopefully a bit easier to read. Top routing, VCC and GND nets hig...

Re: Arttu's MS3 compatible processor board

I wasn't describing decoupling capacitors, really, I was describing local reservoir capacitors. Nomenclature, sure, but... in any case, I was correcting Andy, not trying to patronise you, so it'd be nice if you didn't act like I had been ;-) Sorry, I didn't mean it that way. As general note, Englis...

Re: Arttu's MS3 compatible processor board

Regarding ground / power supply connections and layout. I can believe that this star-like grounding suggested in the datasheet is better than direct connections to a solid ground plane. But I slightly doubt if the difference is significant in real world if we are talking about multilayer boards with...

Re: Arttu's MS3 compatible processor board

The big caps up close are not for battery fluctuation, they're for IO suppression. IE, when the CPU switches loaded pins rapidly, it's these caps that help ensure there is a stable supply still available for *everything else*. Clearer? :-) I know quite well what's the purpose of decoupling capacito...

Re: Arttu's MS3 compatible processor board

Arttu, You need to have a closer look at the Jaguar schematic ( https://github.com/DeuceEFI/Jaguar/blob/0.7-alpha/docs/Jaguar-0.7-alpha-Schematic.pdf ) and pay attention to the capacitor placement and connections to the micro-controller. You are missing the larger 10uF bulk capacitors on VDDR1 and ...

Re: Arttu's MS3 compatible processor board

Most of the unused IO pins are already routed to test points so they are quite easily available if needed. Routing them to a single header would be slightly complicated as the space is limited. I'm prepared to spin out new revision(s) as the firmware side develops further and stabilizes so I think f...

Re: Arttu's MS3 compatible processor board

Changes to the lay-out are done and component placement pictures on previous links are updated.
