Re: Which hardware?
Looks like the PIC32MZ is a winner, ordered a couple of the Olimex PIC32-HMZ144 boards at $19 each. No-cost dev software with real debugging. This board is 200Mhz, 2Mb flash, 512k ram. http://media.digikey.com/Photos/Olimex%20LTD/MFG_PIC32MZH144.jpg PIC32MZ series are high performance MIPS core proc...

Which hardware?
I'm back...after doing the EFI with a 8mhz msp430 on my tractor, it is almost time to start doing some EFI on some cars, well ok, maybe I will start with my jet boat, that has a SHO v8. I have the cop ignition working, by removing the ford processor from the CPU board, and soldering in wires to the ...

Re: coil ignitor noise
http://youtu.be/imQkWVtHjRs The final hardware running the tractor, maybe the 15 people who say the original want to see it running the tractor. :) One issue I ran into was after some testing cranking it, the battery was run down such that the crank RPM's were so low, that the timing between tooth ...

Re: coil ignitor noise
Freddie, WTF are you saying? And why do you feel the need to insult me? There is no other way of using the Duraspark module than how I'm using it, It can't be used to control dwell, it is NOT like an modern ignitor, and it doesn't control dwell itself like I thought it might, by sensing the RPM, it ...

Re: coil ignitor noise
I'm curious why did you choose the MSP430? Fred, have you worked on 1970's cars? Do you know what a Duraspark is? It replaced points in 74-79 ford cars. I'm using the MSP430 because when it came out years ago it was very low power and very inexpensive. I used them for a number of things, but mostly...

Re: coil ignitor noise
I am a big KISS fan, but as I say, as simple as possible, but no simpler. It looks like just using a resistor like they did with a single coil is too simple for these small COP coils. At 2,000 rpm I believe its about 15ms between firings, so that is quite a waste of energy. oh well, so much for the ...

Re: coil ignitor noise
The 9v battery was just for testing, you really think I'd need a 9v to run the tractor? that is funny. I built the completed board with a 10-16v-5v isolated DC-DC, with the opto and darlingtons. I still got noise with this, and it turns out the orange wire isn't the issue, but the ground. However, i...

electronic throttle control
My tractor uses a governor to keep the RPM below 2200. The way you set it up when running the backhoe is to open the throttle and then the governer will cut back when it gets loaded when you need the hydraulics to operate the hoe the governer backs off again and lets the throttle open up to increase...

Re: coil ignitor noise
I dug up an opto-isolator transistor, connected it to the micro output pin, and have it drive the darlington to pull down the orange wire, and now it appears to work without issues. I agree some safety/sync issue would be nice, but frankly there isn't much you can do if you don't have a reliable hal...
