Re: Hey, look, i built something! Neds MicroEMS

I had one design where I ran out of pins, and had SGND and PGND on the same pin. PGND was the bottom plane snuggled against the header, while SGND was the top plane. The only place they met was at the pin. Fred doesnt like this and threw a big tantrum about grounding. He's so so so so scared of noi...

Cool, questions, i like questions :) Ned ! You may could tell us some more about the PCB design ? I personally would like to know how such dense PCB design is done ? How many Layer´s did you use ? How does your mixed signal grounding looks like ? So the PCB is only 2 layers. I was thinking about 4, ...

Not bad aye Fred when post 5 is of a built ECU ;) and fuse wise, thers a polyfuse on the board (actually, theres 2) And i'll likely make this public, but not until i've actually had it running in the car and tested all/most the functionality of it all and found what does/doesnt work. I would hate fo...

Re: SMD soldering techniques?

Best way i have found is just using some solder paste and paste all the pads individually if they are big enough, or if you do small stuff, lay a thin bead across the pads of the IC. Then place the component on top, making sure the legs touch the solder paste on the pads. Align it to a reasonable st...

Re: 40pin-6 board

Yeah, thats what tenting is.
Vias are great as test points or for hacking up a board when you've made a fuck up and need to re-route something, but you should have test points on things that you wanna test anyway :P
