Re: Timing Light
It should work, LED's will take a lot higher current than they are rated for, if it is a short pulse current. For accuracy you need a very short pulse, much smaller than the dwell time, otherwise what you see is blurred. At idle, say 1000 rpm, a 1mS pulse spans 6 degrees so it needs to be a real sho...

Re: High Current Output drivers
Good info Gearhead, thanks for posting. I sometimes wonder why the IRF540 does not seem to be more favoured. It has a 44 milliohm on-resistance, high current capability (33A), ability to be driven straight from an in/out port, fast switching time, easy to source and cheap. It has no protection, but ...

Re: PCB layout
The colour of the PCB is that of the solder mask. Is that what you mean? Black, purple, blue, yellow, green and white, maybe others too, not sure... Then pick the overlay colour. With the first batch, since the tooling costs are high and each PCB is cheap, order as many as there are takers up front,...
Re: Daily WTF
My old PC Win98 was getting close to the time for a new reload of win98, as it seems to need this every 3 years or so. So eventually, like last week, I got a new box with XP, twice the ram (1 gig) and 3 times the processor speed (3 gig P4) and it is a slower PC. wtf? what happened in 10 years? Slowe...

Re: What HiFi humiliation and QUAD discussion
I was digging up audio patents in the late 70's when I was in high school, in the days when the only place I could get a manufacturer's data sheets or application notes was from a manufacturer's book from a state library after making a request and waiting 20 minutes for them to unearth said book fro...

Re: freeEMS_1.0 rev A KICAD
Just a little bit of constructive criticism if thats OK. The page 1 of the schems is a good overview, but is more a system overview than a straight schematic. It takes time to navigate and understand wtf is going on. If you want to do an overview, then 8 x injector boxes are not required, just one, ...

Re: PCB layout
A quad op-amp, for example, is drawn as 4 op-amps, but only the first one has pin numbers assigned to power and ground. Hope that helps, I am still new to Protel, and have only done a few layouts and one PCB made.

Re: freeEMS_1.0 rev A KICAD
It doesn't hurt to have lots of spare ground pads, plus a few 5V and one or two 12V pads spare for unforeseen use. You can never have too many, especially on the first PCB.

Re: PCB layout
If it's anything like Protel the net will be named in the schematic, and be a "power pin", meaning power or ground or a supply voltage bus. Look in the schem.

Re: Low quantity pcb manufacturers
I see the reference to the Chinese as "Chinks" or "ching chong meow" as derogatory, it is unnecessary, and has nothing to do with FreeEMS. The Chinese make good gear and cheap gear, I have seen good and bad PCB's from there, the worst ones I have seen were sold in a relay switch ...
