Re: Downtime and Upgrades

The crusty old server that this forum runs on has been marked end of life and some time between now and the 22nd of March I will need to do some backups and do a shut down and migrate and reboot to new hardware with more resources. I think there was a reason why I didn't do this earlier, but I can't...

Re: DIY Copying New Gen Anchors

So all the links to DXF files etc are gone from the internet, but I happened to have a PDF laying around and I'm working on some DXFs for my personal use. Not sure if I'll FOSS the whole lot or try to capitalise on some of it, but I'm working on this again and should have the first full size prototy...

Re: DIY Copying New Gen Anchors

Subtle detail that I hadn't noticed before: The eye for chain attachment has to be a slot, not a hole, and the remaining pieces of the shank must fit through the appropriate size shackle opening. The slot is to allow the bolt holes in the shackle to pass through and then rotate into position putting...

Thanks for that! Interesting history :-) That video Mr Strong unit is a bit different with the two piece drill holding jaw rather than a separate accessory to do the same. I haven't used mine much since I got it but I have used it a bit outside for holding a large piece of steel pipe for grinding wh...

Re: Merry Christmas from your trusty leader :-)

Merry Christmas and a less Crappy New Year from your trusty leader - apologies for entirely missing last year, what a roller coaster it's been. 2021 could be another clusterf*** or it could be markedly better than 2020 was. Who would have thought the year hindsight is often referred to by would be e...

Re: LiFePO4 Lithium Iron Phosphate LeadAcidReplacement Batte

Recent experiences: 16 cell pack starts an 8 litre diesel with ease. 12 would have worked, too, but I didn't try it. Not sure about 8, probably but likely a bit lazy. Only good for vehicle use, in the boat you want more reserve capacity for the unexpected and therefore more capacity-oriented cells a...

Systems and Requirements

Thinking about the different loads/purposes/charging methods: Critical systems: Starter motor: 500A continuous, spike to double that initially - current spike limited, but capacity to be used more before success necessary for safety Winch for anchor deployment/retrieval - has 150A breaker on it that...

Battery System Design For Family Boat

I've been thinking about battery systems for a few days now and want to record my thoughts for others to learn from or add to. Boat hasn't been used much for a couple of years and this has resulted in 2 out of 3 batteries totally dead - none of them can put out enough current to start the engine or ...

Re: Pulse Jet

You could use it like that with some sort of fake decoder module and custom algorithm and either an air speed sensor or a MAF in front I suppose :-) Then you could tune the mixture for best effect/resonance. Ignition wise it'd be more like a bbq starter mechanism, no need for timed/continuous igniti...
