Re: Silver Circuits vs. Chinese Puma

Yep, they're good. All my boards, except one, passed the Quality Control of Invap, an Argentinian Organization that designs and produce nuclear, aerospace, military and medical stuff. They're very high end, and few hours after my boards went through QC Invap was getting in contact with OurPCB to tes...

Re: Silver Circuits vs. Chinese Puma

OurPCB I've been manufacturing some 4 layer boards as well, and right now I can't find a good reason to do a 2 layer design for a project like this. Its pretty much the same cost, and you get large improvements. Plus, if freeems uses an expensive 22usd MCU, you can't be so cheap to use a 3usd 2 laye...

Re: Preston's Element 14 BOM Attempt

Nevermind, I read 25°C instead of 75°C. The schottky is good at reasonable temperatures. I've to revise the circuit in order to be operational at higher temps :)

Re: Preston's Element 14 BOM Attempt

As Fred wishes: <nitrousnrg> FreeAir_: I think that the capacitorss for the crystal should be from 18pf to 27pf, and the bom lists a 33pf option. I could be wrong, and its not a big difference but I thought its better to mention it [12:35] <zyp> do as specified in the crystals datasheet [12:36] <zyp...

Marcos' 2002 Fiat Palio In Argentina (6th)

OMG, I might have reached the supreme ilumination. Is the Universe starting threads for me? Okay, lets talk about the mighty Palio. Its a 1.3L 16v engine, stuffed with a Bosch ECU, that has been partially replaced by a Puma with FreeEMS setup. The firware was slightly modified to get the M-N decoder...

Re: Wake My Hardware Up Before You Go-go

The going to sleep can be polled, its not critical. The wake up could be solved with a inverting transistor + capacitor for transient immunity. A zener at the base/gate would be cool for further protection. The 12v from the key would drive the base, and the collector/drain would be pulled up to the ...

Re: Wake My Hardware Up Before You Go-go

I need to do my homework about the MCU ISRs, but I'd use IRQ and add some code rather than adding an IC to invert a digital signal. Maybe a voltage supervisor? http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=TCM809JVNB713CT-ND These kind of chips have a delay, that could be usef...

Re: Always ON Power Design!

One little thing an experienced folk warn me about: He had an always-on board, and used a variant of the 8051 MCU, for automotive stuff too (car alarms or something like that). This is what he stumpled into: when the mcu supply went under 4v or so, the mcu stopped, and IT DIDN'T START AGAIN when the...
